These are rather unusual proposals, but if
the F.M.S. Government agree. I do not think we
need object. As regards Dr. Jackson, his salary
is at present $800 per month; with temporary
allowance, and with the exchange at about 2/-
that will work out at 13,440 Hong Kong dollars
per year. The maximum of the scale originally
proposed for the Malarial Research Officer was
Carbensation £1,040 per year, with exchange ition allowance and at the same rate of exchange as above, this
works out at 13,728 Hong Kong dollars per year.
Theref Dr. Jackson is in effect being given the maximum
of the scale. His salary is to be fixed
irrespective of exchange fluctuations. result of this will be that he will lose, as compared with other Hong Kong officers, if
the
value of the dollar rises, and gain, if it falls.
If the arrangement suits him, there seems to be
no reason to object.
